Andrew Mangum's new site.
My pal and American Wasteland artist Andrew Mangum has a new website. Andrew's the guy to go to if you are looking for American Wasteland art from issue 2 to the final chapter. And if you are looking for that special custom Johnny Copperhead piece, I'm sure he can hook you up.

BUMP
Mark Kidwell is a good friend of mine , the artist on American Wasteland, and an excellent writer in his own right. Mark also wrote a scary book. It's called Bump, and I remember when he told me he wanted to write a Haunted House book. He also told me he hated Haunted House and ghost stories. I thought why would you write about something that you didn't even care for? Then, I realized what Mark was doing is giving himself a challenge.

I do that, I give myself challenges. I like trying to be creative within the confines of a genre, or on my Heroes work, I worked within a series bible.
But Mark did something different with Bump. Instead of working within the confines of a Ghost Story, he made the cliches of a Ghost Story work for him and told his own story. Mark managed to condense years of a misspent youth at drive ins and video stores watching slashers, and years of reading EC comics, into a mean little horror story that makes you feel like a guilty teenager reading a Fangoria behind your Math book.

Wanna read the whole BUMP story? This is the deluxe, full-blown gore-fest that wouldn't fit in four comic issues. Available now from Amazon's Createspace as a 300 page trade paperback with full color gloss gore covers, this is a must read for BUMP and splatterpunk horror fans! Nook Color perfect for comics
I've got a first gen Kindle which is terrible for comics and a iPad 1 which is great for comics, but I'd like to see what they look like on a nook.

Professor Hall
Last week I was asked to guest lecture for a Graphic Novel writing class at UCLA. It's online so I didn't have to travel, but so far it's been a great experience. They are using my comic, American Wasteland as a text for writing Narrative. I'm flattered, to say the least.
Guest lecturing online is a pretty easy process. UCLA uses Blackboard which is a simple system once you get used to it. The students ask me questions and I answer. A few of them have asked me to review some of their assignments and comment on them. I try to draw on my past frustrations and explains how the pitching process works, and what pitfalls to avoid.
The strangest thing about the experience is that I am giving them advice that I often take for granted. It's a nice refresher for me as well.
I would do this again in a heartbeat.
